Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe HSTT_Logo2013_FINAL

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is a nonprofit organization committed to saving and improving the lives of pets in the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe region and beyond through adoptions, community spay/neuter services and humane education programs.

Founded in 1994 by a group of committed volunteers, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe has become the driving force in animal rescue and adoption for the Truckee region. Over time, the HSTT has grown from a small grass roots entity to a nationally recognized non-profit organization with five employees and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

The HSTT was the partner and beneficiary for Coffeebar’s “Faces of Coffeebar” art project in the summer of 2012.

High Fives Non-Profit Foundation

Friends and business partners of Coffeebar, High Fives is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for athletes that have suffered a life-altering injury while pursuing their dream in the winter action sports community.

Founded by Truckee resident Roy Tuscany, the Tahoe-based foundation has grown rapidly since it first became a non-profit in January of 2010. The organization has successfully raised funds, secured alternative treatments and aided in the recovery of more than 15 athletes. Tuscany says it is a “dream come true” to help those people, and adds that “it is the mission of High Fives to continue to grow and become a nation-wide organization that effectively acts as an umbrella for those that participate (and get hurt) in the sports we love so dearly.”

Want to help support High Fives? Ask any of our Coffeebar staff members about our partner promotion, which also gets you some really cool Coffeebar swag!

Produce Plus Local Farms and Specialty Purveyors

Produce Plus, owned and operated by longtime North Lake Tahoe residents the Habeger’s, is a strong advocate of the ‘Buy Fresh, Buy Local’ concept and, to that end, has established relationships with a variety of farms for the express purpose of supporting local farmers and offering its customers (including Coffeebar!) the fresh fruits and vegetables grown by these farmers. With a few exceptions (micro greens from San Diego), most farms are within 120 miles of the Produce Plus service area. Learn more about the farms supplying fresh foods to Produce Plus — and to numerous restaurants in the Lake Tahoe/Truckee area  — here. Produce Plus delivers to the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee areas on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. They are known for local and organic items and can procure almost any specialty item overnight. Visit the Produce Plus website to learn more about their products and availability, what’s in season, market outlook, order information, and fresh food resources.

Urban Angels

Urban Angels salon, Coffeebar’s stylish next-door neighbor, was recently purchased by Nina Pivirotto, a former Coffeebar staffmember. Nina joins the ranks of many talented young, progressive entrepreneurs in the Truckee area in taking over ownership of this well-established, community-centric salon, which was voted best salon in the Sierra Sun’s “Best of North Tahoe and Truckee” contest in both 2011 and 2012.

Nina has built an extensive resume as a professional hair stylist since 2008. She is a graduate of the Paul Mitchell School in Pittsburgh, PA. After moving to Tahoe, she began working as a stylist at Urban Angels in 2011, and quickly got an urge to be more involved in the “business side” of the industry. Late this summer, she got that opportunity. Nina is excited to lead her staff at Urban Angels — all of whom are extremely talented, experienced hair and makeup professionals who are passionate about their trade — into a new era. “I don’t want to just run a hair salon, I want to build a culture and a lifestyle… similar to what Coffeebar has done,” Nina said. We wish you the best of luck, Nina, and we’re absolutely confident you will build a culture and lifestyle through your business that is unbeatable!

The following is a statement Nina wrote for Coffeebar on the ‘changing of the guard’ at her new salon: “Its hard to believe it was just two short years ago that Coffebar opened its doors. I have met so many amazing and inspiring people through the incredible culture of coffee – and I aspire to inspire all of you, as much as you have inspired me. I invite you to join us in our journey as I lead my amazing team of Angels into this new chapter. Our objective at Urban Angels has been, and remains, to provide the highest level of customer service in the Truckee/Tahoe area – from the most skillful stylists in the beauty industry. We seek to enrich the lives of every client that enters our salon through progressive and innovative techniques founded on superior service. As Urban Angels blossoms into this new period, we aim to stay closely involved in our community, by providing all of you the means to be the most beautiful forms of yourself. To our existing clients, I am honored to have your business and I look forward to your continued relationship with Urban Angels. To our community members who have not yet experienced Urban Angels (or maybe it’s just been a while), I invite you to come and see for yourself all we have to offer in this new, exciting chapter. Be bold and be beautiful!”

The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour

The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour is back for 2013! The world’s premier skier/boarder-cross race event is taking place at four of our Lake Tahoe resorts. Head-to-head action, four at a time, top-to-bottom, down a wide open course over natural terrain and snow conditions.  This is the ultimate test of ski and riding skills. Open entry for 18 years old and up. A solo qualifying run on Saturday ranks the top-32 men from ski/board and top-16 women from ski/board to Sunday’s finals and a shot at the title. Top two in each round advance through the brackets until the remaining four battle it out for the podium and title of Banzai Champ. Like the old days, it’s racing in its purest form. All events have a unique feel, as each resort has challenging terrain the locals know best. Locals will do their best to defend home turf while others strive to take it.

Daron Rahlves, former US World Cup and Olympic ski racer, is the organizer of the event and is responsible for its growth and success with the help of the host resorts, event partnerships and the competitors. In 2009 and 2010, one race was held each year at Sugar Bowl as the Silver Belt Banzai. In 2011, The Rahlves’ Banzai tour was created. The Silver Belt Race first took place in the 1940’s at Sugar Bowl Resort and was re-born in 2009 with one event in its current form. The race was an enormous success in 2009 with the resort and competitors. The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour builds on the past success of that race. Now, world, national, regional and local media coverage of the event includes: Red Bull Media House, Warren Miller Entertainment, Tahoe TV, 101.5FM Truckee Tahoe Radio, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, Powder Mag, local news and all over the WEB.

Bespoke

Bespoke is downtown Truckee’s newest retail space and studio. Bespoke is a storefront and workshop space focused on artisan-made goods and vintage, custom home furnishings. Local artist Heather River has spent years collecting the range of hand-crafted goods she describes as “A mix of new meets old” featured in Bespoke, alongside many of her own creations.

All of the unique goods featured at Bespoke are handmade by artisans, or products of small U.S. companies, with a focus on “slow” creation. Bespoke’s collection has been carefully crafted and/or selected by River, who is a graduate of the Fashion Institute in San Francisco, and has capitalized on her many years of art education and expertise in creating this new business endeavor. River has lived in Truckee for nearly eight years, and has been involved with two other local businesses prior to deciding to open up her own – a move she said she’s been working toward and invested herself in for quite some time.

“Bespoke is a business I have been crafting in my head for years,” River said. “I have spent months looking for the right space, and years collecting artist contacts, and vintage and rare finds. I can’t wait to share my store with you!”

The workshop area in the rear of the store provide arts classes and discussions to the public, and a space for creative minds to meet, learn, explore and create.

“Bespoke is, above all, for the community,” River said.

Bespoke is located at 10130 Donner Pass Rd. in downtown Truckee. The storefront is open daily, with the following hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
