Celebrating Four Years!

It’s so hard to believe we celebrated our 4th birthday this month. The time has gone by so fast as we have been fortunate enough to do what we love every single day here at Coffeebar. When we think about all of the relationships we have built during that time, the roots we have established here in one of the greatest communities in the world, how much we’ve grown and learned as individuals and in our business thanks to all the incredible people that walk through our doors each day, and how much our vision has continued to evolve… that is a whole lot to pack into 4 short years! We are incredibly grateful for every single moment, and we look forward to serving our Coffeebar family for many years to come. Thank you so much to all of you who are a part of this family — for 4 great years, and for so much more.
The very beginning...

The very beginning…

... And four years down the road!

… And four years down the road!

We celebrated our big day in style with our annual Customer Appreciation Day, where we served up $1 drinks all day long. Because, really, this day is all about our customers!  THANK YOU!!

Coffeebar Reno: Opening Tomorrow!

Officially opening tomorrow in Reno! Check out our press release below for all the details!

Italian-Style Coffee Shop to Open in Reno

Reno, Nev. — Coffeebar, Reno’s newest, Italian-style coffee shop, will open its doors at 682 Mt. Rose Street on Saturday, Jan. 18. Coffeebar will be open daily between 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. until February, and then will stay open until 10 p.m. once the café’s beer and wine license is finalized. This is Coffeebar’s second location with the first being in Truckee, Calif.

Coffeebar will hold its official Grand Opening weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26, and will feature free coffee, tea and other beverages all weekend. Also during the Grand Opening weekend, Coffeebar will have special promotions with proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

Inspired by the coffee houses found on every street corner of Italy, Coffeebar offers an inclusive, authentic Italian style café experience in Truckee, Calif., and now in Southwest Reno.

Coffeebar serves organic coffee and espresso, homemade pastries, panini sandwiches, freshly spun gelato, handmade European crepes, organic loose-leaf tea, mate and chai, Italian sodas, beer, wine and more.

Coffeebar is committed to sustainable business practices.

“We are aware of the daily footprint coffee shops leave behind, so we do our best to minimize that by offering own cup discounts and other ‘in house’ specials when you stay for your morning cup,” said owner Greg Buchheister. “We also work with local farms by giving them our coffee and food compost, and they in turn provide us with produce — it’s full circle affair! We even use fettuccini instead of wood or plastic for our stir sticks.”

All of Coffeebar’s proprietary, organic coffee blends are selected and roasted locally in Reno by master roaster Carl Staub, one of the most prominent figures in the industry and Reno local of 20 years.

But more important than its authentic menu and top-notch service, Coffeebar was founded on the principle of providing a community hub for its neighbors.

“Community is what makes up the heart of Coffeebar,” Buchheister said. “We strive to be an epicenter: a place where people can come together to share, chat, laugh, relax, work, connect and embrace life; all while enjoying the simple pleasure of your favorite drink.”

Since opening its Truckee location in 2010, Coffeebar has become an integral part of the North Lake Tahoe community – voted “best espresso” by Truckee/North Lake Tahoe residents in 2011-2013 — and a go-to destination for locals and travelers alike.

Buchheister, who leads the Coffeebar team, is one of the top independent coffee retailers in the country, with industry experience dating back to 1998. Reno’s Coffeebar will be the 17th store Buchheister has opened.

“I’m thrilled to be bringing our experience and passion here to Reno, and eager to immerse into this new community,” Buchheister said. “Reno has a booming culinary scene, and we can’t wait to become a part of that. I think we are bringing a one-of-a-kind concept that will be a great fit for Reno.”

Kate Britton is our Featured Artist for September

Kate1Truckee-based artist Kate Britton will be bringing her talents to Coffeebar next month as our featured artist for September.

Britton’s works will be showcased all month long on our coffeehouse walls, and we’ll kickoff the exhibit with our usual monthly ART SHOW on Friday, Sept. 6th from 6 to 10 p.m. Please join us to welcome Kate Britton to Coffeebar, be the first to view some amazing art by this local talent, “meet and greet” with Kate, and enjoy the company of friends. Wine and beer will be available for purchase, as well as food from our evening fare menu.

Below is Britton’s personal statement, which describes her approach to art and her work:

“My work primarily looks at the relationship between industry and nature.  I am interested in the physical process of creating the work and how that early intervention plays a huge part in the initiation and journey of a piece.  I select materials based on their physical qualities and the potential they present  to allow manipulation  that essentially could reveal a variety of possibilities and associations.

By transforming these materials, whether computer driven, manipulated in photography, or physically by hand, the evolution begins in a way that subverts their original function as a standard consumer or industrial product, introducing an element of contradiction.

I am not trying to recreate, my objective is to bring a new and ambiguous visual, this leading  the viewer to look and discover something unfamiliar, perhaps questioning,  thus allowing the senses to wander into different directions, and see where that takes you.”

We look forward to seeing you Friday, Sept. 6th!

Evening Menu

Earlier this month, Coffeebar introduced its new evening menu. These tapas-style items are now available in the evenings in addition to our traditional fare of crepes and salads. We hope you all enjoy the new additions for these late summer evenings! Let us know what you think!

Coffeebar/Bespoke T-Shirt Contest Designs

Last month we announced a community design contest for a co-branded t-shirt with our friends at Bespoke. We were completely overwhelmed and amazed by the incredible designs that were submitted. There was SO much talent and creativity displayed with each unique design, and it was a big challenge for us to ultimately decide on a winner. However, that task needed to be achieved, and together with Bespoke and the public (who voted via Facebook), we selected Ellen Appleby’s design as the winner. Ellen’s design will be silk screened by Bespoke on to tee shirts, and those will be available for sale soon! HUGE thanks to all who submitted designs and shared your creativity with us. What a talented community we live in! Check out all of the fabulous designs below!

Beer of the Moment, as selected by Andy:

Shift Pale Lager

Brewery: New Belgium
Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
Style: American Pale Lager
Size: 16oz Can
ABV: 5%
Price: $5.50

American Pale Lagers, also known as “all-malts”, are offshoots of their cousin the American Adjunct Lagers which were popularized under the brands of Budweiser, Miller and Coors after the end of prohibition. Unlike the latter (which use adjunct grains – predominately rice and corn), American Pale Lagers are brewed entirely with barley malt and therefore often have a greater depth of flavor and complexity to the beer. American Pale Lagers are a relatively recent development in the American Craft Beer scene, particularly in Colorado, where breweries such as New Belgium and Upslope have begun brewing Pale Lagers for widespread distribution.

Shift Lager, from New Belgium, has an interesting personal history. Having been brewed for years by the brewery exclusively for employees at the end of their shift (hence the name), in early 2012, after lobbying by New Belgium employees, the brewery began selling the beer in all of their distribution markets. Despite the simplicity of the style, Shift achieves a level of complexity that would surprise any beer snob. Sweet notes of tropical fruit are balanced by citrusy hops combining with a light, medium carbonated mouth feel perfect for any summer adventure.
